Manchester City central defender Ruben Dias has revealed one of his secrets is previously studying the English Premier League’s former iconic number fives.
The Portuguese star raised eyebrows when Man City paid Benfica €68,00 million before the start of the season, but the 23-year-old needed less than 24 league games to emerge as one of the best central defenders in England right now.
Speaking to a former great central defender, Rio Ferdinand, after helping City to a 21st consecutive win on Tuesday night, Dias shared his former heroes while growing up in Amadora.
"When I was a kid watching the Premier League was my dream weekend, I've watched many games with you, Vidic, Kompany, John Terry, an infinite list," he said via Goal.
"From there you start learning and I learned a lot from what I hear and what I see and just by watching I started to understand the league and the way you play.
"The thing that makes the big difference is how competitive it is. Here you get the challenge every game and I think that's what makes the league different and if you're successful it's because you can solve it many times,” he concluded.
Coming up next for Dias and City is the visit of Manchester United for the derby this weekend.
