AFCON 2021 qualifers roundup: Egypt thump Comoros, Aubameyang's Gabon stunned in Angola

Egypt ended their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 4-0 thumping of Comoros on Monday to qualify as group winners.

The Pharaos booked their place in the finals following a 1-1 draw against Kenya last week but ensured they qualified in first position with their last match in Cairo.

Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny, who was reportedly involved in a spat with his manager before the match in Nairobi, gave the hosts the lead in the 15th minute, opening the floodgates.

Mohamed Sherif then made it 2-0 two minutes later, before Liverpool dangerman Mohamed Salah scored a third in the 21st minute.

Salah then scored his second of the day and Egypt's fourth in the 25th minute to wrap up the victory.

In another Group G game played in Lome, visitors Harambee Stars beat Togo 2-1 to finish third on seven points, two adrift of Comoros.

Abdallah Hassan gave Kenya the lead in the first half before Masoud Juma made it 2-0 from the spot in the 65th minute.

Henri Eninful grabbed the consolation for the hosts with virtually the last kick of the match, scoring from the penalty spot for a 2-1 scoreline.

Elsewhere, Angola stunned Gabon 2-0 in a Group D clash played in Luanda.

The Panthers had already qualified for the finals, while the hosts remained winless with four losses and a draw going into the last match.

Boavista midfielder Show gave the hosts the lead before Loide Augusto wrapped up the win in the 69th minute.

  • Togo 1-2 Kenya
  • Egypt 4-0 Comoros
  • Angola 2-0 Gabon
  • Burkina Faso 1-0 South Sudan
