Manchester United are willing to offer left-back Alex Telles plus €40m to Sporting Lisbon for the services of starlet Nuno Mendes.
According to Portuguese publication Record, an ‘English emissary (representative)’ of United has offered Telles has been offered as a ‘bargaining chip’ in a deal to land a different left-back in starlet Mendes, with the Red Devils want to beat rivals City to the transfer.
The emissary involved is the same one that helped negotiate the signing of Bruno Fernandes with United willing to listen to offers for Telles who has rarely featured for United despite being a regular with the Brazilian national team.
The reports claim that Sporting has said ‘yes’ to Telles being a part of the deal, on the provision that they would receive a €40m fee for Mendes. Apart from that, the club would also require United to chip in with part of Telles's salary which is believed to be around €77,000-a-week.
The reports add that 18-year-old Mendes holds a release clause of €70m, but the club is willing to accept €40m should Telles’ return to Portugal be included.
