Laliga giants FC Barcelona have triggered the option to automatically renew Oscar Mingueza’s contract with the club.
The youngster has been helpful for Barcelona in the periods where their defence was hit by numerous injuries and according to Dario Sport, the club have extended the 21-year-old defender’s contract until 2023 despite having had until May 31st to take the decision.
The reports further state that Barca wants to tie the player for a longer period with negotiations with the player’s representative, Josep Maria Orobitg, set to continue in the next few days to agree on the conditions.
There had been reports that the 21-year-old was considering his future at the club if he wasn’t going to be guaranteed more playing time but his performances since he was promoted to the first team this season is said to have impressed manager Ronald Koeman and the club’s officials who thinks he will turn out to be a great player for them.
Mingueza debut with Barca’s first team came in a Champions League fixture at Dynamo Kyiv. He has been a trusted player under Koeman with his capability to play as a right-back too said to be something impressive for the Dutchman.
