Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is set to sign a new two-year deal with FC Barcelona.
Messi’s future at Camp Nou has been a subject of speculation since admitting last summer that he wanted to quit the club but following the arrival of Juan Laporta as the new president, the tone seems to have changed with the player said to be keen on extending his stay.
Journalist Christian Martin suggests that the player has been presented with the initial draft of a new contract with the forward expected to agree to the terms of the deal. He understands the fact that the club cannot grant him an astronomical contract he enjoyed before.
The reports further claim that Barca wants Messi to hang up his boot at the Camp Nou and then stay with the club either as the club ambassador or by occupying an institutional position. The club wants to give the Argentine a lifetime contract with his father and agent, Jorge Messi already in Barcelona but there have been no contacts yet.
The six-time Ballon D’or Winner has been in scintillating form since the start of 2021 and played a massive role in conquering Barça’s 31st Copa Del Rey title.
