Paulo Fonseca & Tottenham agree "in principle"

Former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca is in advanced talks to become Tottenham's new head coach.

The Portuguese are set to sign a three-year contract, according to Sky in Italy, but no agreement has yet been reached between the two parties.

Fabio Paratici, the former Juventus transfer head who will be named Tottenham's new sporting director next week, has been involved in the process.

Spurs have turned to Fonseca after their attempt to select Antonio Conte as Jose Mourinho's replacement fell through last week due to a breakdown in discussions.

The club also sought unsuccessfully to entice Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, back to north London a year and a half after his dismissal.

Since his arrival in 2019, the Portuguese has been chastised for his failure to produce victories in crucial Serie A games, with only four wins in 24 appearances against Italy's best sides.

Between 2016 and 2019, Fonseca won three consecutive doubles with Shakhtar Donetsk, as well as a Portuguese Cup with Braga in 2016 and a Portuguese Super Cup with Porto in 2013.
