Liverpool given the green light to expand Anfield

Premier League giants Liverpool FC have been given the green light for plans to expand Anfield to a 61,000 seater stadium over the next 12 months.

The Echo reports that the City Council recommended plans to increase the Anfield Road End’s capacity, which has now been approved by a committee.

The move will now see the new plan for the corner of the Anfield Road End and the Kenny Dalglish Stand have an entry section big enough to bring in large items for stages to convert the stadium for concerts and shows as per This Is Anfield.

The entire cost for the construction has been estimated to be around £60 million with the expanded side set to look similar to what the Main Stand currently looks like and will increase the venue’s capacity to 61,000.

The expansion will see Anfield overtake Man City's Etihad and the Emirates of Arsenal in terms of capacity, leaving only the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the London Stadium, and Old Trafford as the larger grounds in English club football.
