Gor Mahia have submitted a letter to CECAFA event organizers, confirming the club will participate in the upcoming tournament.
The Kenya Football Federation had forwarded the name of Tusker as the only club to participate in the 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup. K'Ogalo who are the defending champions are supposed to automatically qualify for the tournament despite the outcome of the Kenyan Premier League. However, the FKF forwarded on Tusker to participate, despite having not won the league.
"We write to confirm our participation in the forthcoming CECAFA-KAGAME CUP 2021 tournament slated to kick off in Dar es Salaam early next month," part of the letter from Gor Mahia read.
Nick Mwenda, the FKF Chairman had earlier released a statement saying, " We are now playing a new Kagame Cup since the previous one was canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic, so the time Gor were to represent the country has been overtaken by events and instead, Tusker will go for the tournament."
The Green Army has however asked CECAFA organizers to allow them to forward the list of players and members of the technical bench that will make the trip to Dar es Salaam.
"We will soon forward the official list of the players and members of the Technical Bench who will make a trip to represent the country as had been directed by the Federation, being the Defending Champions," a letter to CECAFA read.
The tournament will take place next month from 1st to 15th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
