Chelsea has joined English Premier League's big boys in the hunt for Saul Niguez's signature from Atletico Madrid.
As Futaa has reported in the past several weeks, Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez has been targetted by the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. The Reds are searching to replace Gini Wijnaldum, while the Red Devils seek to build added central midfield depth.
Despite having N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic, the Blues reportedly want to add the options with Niguez, according to leading Spanish outlet Marca.
Chelsea's website reported:
"According to Marca, the Blues have contacted Atletico Madrid over a transfer for Saul Niguez. The midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano, despite winning the La Liga title under Argentine boss Diego Simeone," the club wrote.
"Thomas Tuchel is said to be behind the interest from the Champions League winners, and there’s not a great deal more on Liverpool’s interest, although the Reds are also linked by AS on Monday.
"Saul has fallen out of favour in the Spanish capital and the arrival of Copa America winner Rodrigo de Paul will be an advantage for the Blues if reports of a move for the midfielder prove true.
"Manchester United and Liverpool aren’t the only clubs interested in signing the 26-year-old. Barcelona were reportedly keen on doing a swap deal that included Antoine Griezmann," the report concluded.
Meanwhile, Tuchel's side will take on the Europa League champions Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup on 11 August.
