Ugly scenes as Ligue 1 awards Nice points after Marseille refuse to restart a game

There were ugly scenes in the French Ligue 1 in the game between Nice and Marseille on Sunday night.

Nice were leading 1-0 up when the game was suspended due to some unsavory scenes from the club fans. Kasper Dolberg had given the home side the lead but it wasn't enough to please some of their fans.

A group of the fans behind the goal had thrown bottles and objects at Marseille players throughout the first half as they attempted to take set-pieces and the series of events took a sad turn when one bottle struck Marseille’s Dimitri Payet, who picked it up and threw it back into the crowd.

Nice fans then charged onto the pitch, where chaos ensued as security failed to stop them, leading the game to be suspended.

The move saw Marseille players refuse to return to the field of play with Ligue 1 awarding a 3-0 victory to Nice after the incident.

Marseille boss Jorge Sampaoli then had to be restrained by Payet as he furiously attempted to remonstrate with Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.
