Mike Ashley interested in buying Derby County

Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is interested in buying Championship side Derby County.

Ashley ended his 14-year stay in the North East this week after selling the club to Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, much to the jubilation of Magpies supporters who had grown tired of him.

According to the Mirror, Ashley still wants to invest in football and sees Derby as a club he can buy currently owing to the financial struggles they've been through in recent times. The Rams entered administration earlier this season and had 12 points deducted as they try to fight to stay afloat in the league.

Ashley wishes to maintain a public platform for his Sports Direct empire, and the second-tier outfit would provide that for the business magnate.

Sports Direct's headquarters are situated in Shirebrook, Derbyshire just 30 miles from Pride Park and Ashley believe the investment will be good for him and his group as he hopes to bring the club back to its glory days.
