👀 Four eye-catching results you might have missed yesterday

The Premier League delivered thrills and spills as per usual this weekend, but a few results from the rest of Europe definitely caught our eye yesterday.

Here's a quick reminder of one from each of the four big five leagues outside of England.

🇮🇹 Empoli 1-4 Atalanta

Atalanta has become one of the most watchable teams in the world because of their gung-ho approach to attack-minded football. Gian Piero Gasperini's team swept Empoli aside, with Duván Zapata becoming the first Colombian player to bag 100 goals in Serie A history. Next up for the team from Bergamo is a trip to Old Trafford to take on a beleaguered Man United team on Wednesday. Not to be missed.

🇩🇪 Bayer Leverkusen 1-5 Bayern

Ahead of kickoff, the hosts were above their more illustrious opponents, but champions Bayern sent out an emphatic statement of intent with a thrashing of an in-form Bayer Leverkusen outfit. Five first-half goals, including four inside a scintillating seven-minute spell, put the game to bed before the break. Julian Nagelsmann's team is going to take some stopping.

🇪🇸 Villarreal 1-2 Osasuna

2021 Europa League winners Villarreal finds themselves languishing in 11th with just two wins from their opening eight games in LaLiga. The pressure is on Unai Emery to get a favourable result in midweek against Young Boys, with the Yellow Submarine claiming just a single point from their opening two matches in Champions League Group F.

🇫🇷 Marseille 4-1 Lorient

Love him or hate him, but Matteo Guendouzi possesses a lot of talent. The Marseille midfielder, on-loan from Arsenal, bagged two goals and an assist in L'OM's impressive home win last night that put 10 points behind league leaders PSG with a game in hand. Up next for Les Phocéens is a daunting clash with none other than PSG. Judging by their recent form, though, Marseille shouldn't feel overawed. By the way, Dimitri Payet assisted three of Marseille's four goals last night.
