Guardiola talks up 'excellent' Pochettino amid Man United links

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola believes PSB boss Mauricio Pochettino can be considered an elite manager despite having no title triumphs to his name.

United is in the hunt for a new head coach following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was sacked on Sunday after4-1 loss to Watford. The Red Devils have already appointed club legend Michael Carrick as the caretaker boss as they search for a permanent manager.

According to reports, Pochettino has been identified as the perfect replacement for the vacant position but his only silverware as a boss came in the Coupe de France last season.

"You can be a top manager and not win titles. The managers that have the chance to win the titles are at top, top clubs with good investments and exceptional players. Otherwise, for a manager, it is impossible to win," said Guardiola

"That doesn’t mean the managers in the Championship or not in the top six of the Premier League cannot be excellent managers in tactics, communication, leading. It’s not necessary to win titles."

"I’m pretty sure the managers get better. Every season we go through you have a lot of learnings and I’m pretty sure he’s an excellent manager."

Guardiola will his side against Pochettino's men on Wednesday in the Champions League.
