UCL: Barcelona qualification stalls as Chelsea, Man United advance

Barcelona missed a chance of boosting their qualification hopes in the Champions League after being held to a goalless draw by Benfica at Cmp Nou.

The hots, being led by Xavi Hernandez for the first time in the competition, missed a string of chances with the results seeing them being two points clear of Benfica who will be up against Dynamo Kyiv in the last group game; Bayern beating Kyiv 2-1 on the game to secure a top spot.

In the other game on Tuesday night, Lille moved top of their group after Canada striker Jonathan David scored his 12th goal of the season to seal a 1-0 win over Salzburg.

The result sees Salzburg drop to the second position with Sevilla jumping into third place, above Wolfsburg after a 2-0 victory over the German team thanks to goals by Joan Jordán and Rafa Mir.
Manchester United and Chelsea FC made it to the last 16 following wins over Villarreal and Juventus FC respectively.

United who went into the game with Michael Carrick as their manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier in the week, was lucky not to have gone behind in the first half with David De Gea pulling a string of saves to keep them in the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo produced a sublime lobbed finish after the host's keeper had handed him a gift with Jadon Sancho scoring his first goal in United colors minutes later as the visitors sealed a 2-0 win.

Chelsea also advanced to the next round on the back of a 4-0 win over already-qualified Juventus, which slumped to its heaviest ever loss in the Champions League. With Liverpool also qualified and Manchester City likely to join them, the Premier League will again be well represented in the knockout stage.
