Nigerian legend names six nations that can win AFCON

Former Nigeria international Emmanuel Amuneke has named six nations he believes have the quality to become AFCON 2021 champions.

The tournament kicked off last Sunday as hosts Cameroon defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in Group A. Meanwhile, everyone has been asking when are the big boys playing?

Those same big boys are among Amuneke’s favourites to win the tournament this year. So who are Amuneke’s picks?

“Algeria is the reigning champions, and they are the favourites,” Amuneke told CAF.com.

“Senegal is a very strong team, so are the hosts Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

“It will be very difficult to predict who will win the title because we have so many great teams here. There are big changes in African football, players with a global dimension, it is promising.

“In Europe today, African footballers play the leading roles in their clubs and evolve in the top clubs in the world. That must be reflected in this competition,” the former Tanzania coach concluded.

Meanwhile, the defending champions Algeria will start against Sierra Leone on Tuesday.
