As we say here in Africa, a giant tree has fallen. Real Madrid have announced the passing of a club legend, Francisco Gento aged 88.
The sad announcement was made by Los Blancos via social media on Tuesday afternoon.
"Real Madrid C. F., the club's president and the Board of Directors are deeply saddened by the death of Francisco Gento, honorary president of Real Madrid and one of the greatest legends of our club and of world football," Real said.
According to the available details, Gento, who was affectionately known as "Paco" became a Real Madrid player in 1953. He then went on to stay at the club for an extraordinary 18 years.
He won six European Cups, 12 league titles and not forgetting two Copa Del Rey titles. Well, the man is beyond legendary, he basically put Real Madrid where they are today, didn't he?
