Reports: Jesse Lingard set for Newcastle move

Newcastle United have renewed their pursuit of Jesse Lingard and have made a £10 million loan offer to Manchester United for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle and Manchester United have been in negotiations for most of January and have been unable to reach a deal, but the Magpies have finally made an offer that they anticipate to be approved.

And, while it is only a loan, it could technically be the end of Lingard's United career when his contract expires in the summer.

Lingard's contract would be taken up by Newcastle if he were to be loaned, but to get the deal done, they'd have to more than double his salary and make him the club's highest-paid player, as several papers in the UK reported earlier this month.

Even if United accept Newcastle's offer, Lingard will have the final say, and that is the real issue.

Lingard has previously turned down offers from West Ham and Tottenham this month, stating that he wants to either earn a new contract at United or let his contract expire and see what his best option is.

He'll be able to finish his contract, but Newcastle hopes he'll do so in the North East rather than the North West.

Newcastle are willing to pay Lingard about £150,000 per week for the rest of the season, plus a large incentive if he keeps them in the Premier League, and there will be no obligation on his part to stay, though he will be offered a contract.

If Newcastle are unable to sign Lingard, it's believed that the Magpies have conducted conversations with Tottenham's Dele Alli and Chelsea's Ross Barkley in the previous week about prospective transfers.

The Magpies are continually improving all facets of their team, and were buoyed by their weekend victory against Leeds.
