AFCON: Morocco stage comeback against Malawi to advance to quarters

Morocco came from a goal down to register a 2-1 victory over Malawi to advance to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Morocco had a slow start to the game leaving Malawi with the freedom to dominate in early exchanges. Morocco's sloppy start saw them punishing inside seven minutes of play and it was Mhango with the goal. He saw the goalkeeper slightly off his line and went for a goal and it flew into the top corner and Malawi led.

Off the post

Morocco had the perfect opportunity to the leveller from a set-piece but were denied by the bar. It was a brilliant ball into the box, Saiss looked certain to score from six yards out but he diverted it onto the bar.

Leveller

Just before halftime, Morocco got the leveller through En-Nesyri. A corner was initially cleared but clipped back into the far post where En-Nesyri was free and headed in to draw Morocco level.

Hakimi's freekick

Hakim scored a 25-yard free that left Malawi keeper with no chance. The PSG right-back whipped the ball over the wall and into the top corner and Thomu watched it as he could not get anywhere near.
