Rigobert Song named Indomitable Lions boss on orders of the president

Rigobert Song has been named as Cameroon's next head coach, succeeding Portugal's António Conceiço da Silva Oliveira.

The 45-year-old will be on the technical bench with former Harambee Stars French coach Sèbastien Migne, who will serve as his assistant, the ministry of sports and physical education stated in a letter.

This follows Cameroon's third-place result at the Africa Cup of Nations, which they hosted in January.

The former Liverpool and West Ham defender served as coach of Cameroon's African Nations Championship team, and his pick reflects an increasing tendency among African teams to seek out indigenous answers to their coaching dilemmas.

Song, who has also featured for Liverpool in the Premier League, is the country's most capped player, making 137 appearances for the Indomitable Lions.

Senegal, Algeria, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso are just a handful of the countries whose football sides are managed by locals.

Futaa wishes Song all the best in his new role!
