Benzema's last-minute strike moves Real Madrid closer to LaLiga title

Karim Benzema scored a later winner as Real Madrid recovered from 2-0 down to beat Sevilla 3-2 and move closer to the Spanish LaLiga title.

Sevilla, currently sitting third on the standings went into the match knowing a win could reduce Madrid's lead at the top, and for some time, seemed they could get it done.

Ivan Rakitic and Erik Lamela gave the hosts a 2-0 with two quick goals midway through the first half, handing them total control of the match.

Carlo Ancelotti's side though worked their way back into the game and managed to halve the deficit five minutes into the second half when Rodrygo put the ball in the back of the net with a simple finish.

Nacho equalised with eight minutes to go before in-form Benzema sealed a remarkable comeback with the winner deep in added time.

It was the Frenchman's 39th goal of the season in what is proving to be one of his best European campaigns.

The win ensured Madrid opened a 15-point gap between them and second-placed Barcelona, who play on Monday night.

The Blaugrana are level on points with Sevilla, but the Blaugrana have two matches at hand over their closest rivals.

In another match, Yannick Carrasco's stoppage-time penalty earned Atletico Madrid a late 2-1 win over Espanyol.

The Belgian had given the hosts the lead seven minutes after the break but had to finish the match with 10 men after Geoffrey Kondogbia was sent off with 19 minutes to go.

The visitors then equalised shortly after the red card, only to be undone by the late penalty.
