Wazito FC overpowers GFE to join Shield last eight
Wazito FC joined the last eight in the GOTV shield after beating GFE 105 2-0 in a round of 16 tie staged at Kipchoge Keino Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
GFE started well and looked dangerous from couple of set pieces but Wazito scored first through Kennedy Ayako who raced and took a venomous strike that slipped past GFE’s goalkeeper hands at the 15th minute.
Wazito’s Joe Waithira was brought down in the 18 yard box few minutes later as the side continued to chase for the second. The referee however waved for play to go on.
In the final half Zeka Wakoli’s shot went straight to Wazito FC’s goalkeeper as they home side pushed for an equalizer. Wazito boss Frank Ouna pulled off Joe Waithira and introduced Chris Opondo.
GFE then went on to pin Wazito back in their area but Wazito remained steady and focused in defending. Their tactical discipline paid off as they managed to get the second goal at 75th minute.
Ayako sent another powerful shot that came off the post and headed into the the net for a 2-0 lead. After the goal Johnstone Omurwa was introduced and he helped the side to remain strong at the back.
Wazito will face off with the winner of the clash between AFC Leopards and Bidco United in the quarters.
