CAF calls for Morocco WC bid support
CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has called on fellow Africa Football Associations to fully support Morocco's bid to host the 2026 World Cup competition.
The 2026 edition will be the first under the new expanded format to host 48 nations. Fifa has also confirmed that Canada, Mexico and the United States of America have expressed their intention to have a joint bid.
- I am ready to initiate a gathering of African Football's strong forces to convince the World community of the validity and desirability of the African candidature based on real organizational capacities, Ahmad told CAFOnline.
Under the rotational policy, the 2026 finals have been reserved for countries/FAs from Africa (CAF), North America (CONCAF), South America (CONMEBOL) and the Oceania (OFC).
If successful Morocco will be the second Africa nation to host the global football affair after South Africa in 2010. The 2018 and 2016 campaigns will be in Russia and Qatar respectively.
