Goal Fest: Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Preview

18 Aug 2017, 20:45

Liverpool and Crystal Palace had a bad start to the 17/18 season and both will be desperate to make up for it this Saturday.

Palace started on a bad note as newcomers Huddersfield were able to thrash them 3-0 at home. Liverpool on the other hand conceded a last minute goal to ensure a 3-3 draw with Marco Silva’s Watford.

The two sides can be said to be in different halves of the table, in that the previous Premier League campaign saw the Reds finish in fourth place to guarantee themselves a place in the  Champions League competition, with the Eagles struggling to stay afloat in the top-tier competition.

Palace’s Zaha is expected to miss out for a month after damaging his right knee against Huddersfield in a big blow to Palace's early season hopes. On the other hand Liverpool started on a low note as they were only able to manage a 3-3 draw with Watford in injury time. With Philippe Coutinho, fresh from handing in a transfer request, Nathaniel Clyne and Daniel Sturridge injured, this will undoubtedly be a tough match for Klopp’s side.

De Boer would have liked to secure the three points at home but the tactician and his squad must now travel to Anfield and try to beat the Reds in front of their passionate home supporters.

Klopp will strive to build on last season’s success by quickly establishing their dominance early on in the match.

In their three previous visits to Anfield, Palace have managed to beat the Red’s  by an aggregate score of 7-1 including this summer's pre-season game.

Things will however not be exactly the same since both teams have managed to add fresh talents to their ranks this summer as follows:

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, Dominic Solanke

Crystal Palace: Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald, Fosu-Mensah.

The Verdict

Expect both teams to score but I would give the edge to Liverpool on account of their lethal frontline.
