Zesco United were dealt a blow by the injury to their star striker Jesse Were despite a sweet victory against Napsa Stars in the Zambia FAZ Super League round of 24 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on August 20, 2017.

Injured Were was stretched out in the 66th minute and replaced by Davies Kasirye. Meanwhile A Fackson Kapumbu screamer in the first half stood between the two sides into the break as Zesco look to solidify their grip on the summit. Maybin Kalengo added the second for the home side in the 49th minute to seal all points on offer for the Ndola based side. Phiri Mangani pulled one for the visitors in the 77th minute.

Zesco, home to Kenya's trio of Were, Anthony Akumu and David Owino tops the league with 44 points though have played two less matches as their clashes against Power Dynamos and Green Buffaloes remain postponed.

The weekend win adds to Zesco's three in previous outings. Enock Sabumukama was voted man of the match despite coming on as the substitute.
