Nambute sends Homeboyz dancing in the rain

Francis Nambute sent home a last minute shot to hand maximum points to hosts Kakamega Homeboyz as they faced Thika United adding on to a Moses Mudavadi equalizer earlier in the second half on Saturday 9 September at the waterlogged Mumias Stadium pitch.

Thika started on a fast note as they attacked from the onset with Mukangula leading the offence but Opondo was quick to clear the danger before Andrew Kulecho fired his shot off target with only the keeper to beat. Kibwana’s follow up shop suffered a similar fate moments later while Wanjala’s shot was too weak..

Kakamega Homeboyz remained under pressure for the starting 20 minutes of the match with Mukangula at it again this time rounding four defenders with sheer brilliance in dribbling but his ultimate shot missed the target by inches.

Opondo received the first booking with Thika taking the opportunity to attack with Juma slowing down a Kibwana shot from one on one situation before a wasteful corner from Okoth proved a long shot as Thika’s intention became even clearer.

Expensive blunder

Dennis Odhiambo then cleared after an almost expensive blunder that saw Allan Owiny punch away a Chikati shot. Momanyi then sent his header off target as the hosts attempted a comeback but this proved counterproductive as Mukangula tapped in a Tsuma cross from a counter attack.

The second half started on a high for both sides with Thika’s Samuel Mwanje was then booked for a foul on Mudavadi before the latter rose to shoot inches over the bar as the hosts gave the clearest indicator that they were going for an equalizer backed by the home advantage.

Mudavadi’s efforts were rewarded in the 77th minute when he equalized from well executed shot inside the 18 yard area capitalizing on a fresh substitute Avire cross who had come on for Mejja the latter having been stretchered off. He was at it again with a header minutes later but he crashed against the post.

Avire proved a thone in the hosts’ flesh with his header crashing against the upright in the dying minutes of the match. His efforts however were not futile as Francis Nambute controlled the rebound amidst heavy downpour and waterlogged pitch to send home the winner.
