Odera: Wastefulness, red card cost us against Sofapaka
Chemelil Sugar FC assistant coach Charles Odera says his side's wastefulness early on in the game and John Waw sending off are to blame for his team's 4-1 demolition by Sofapaka in a Kenyan Premier League match match staged at the Narok County Stadium on Sunday 10 September.
Ugandan forward Umar Kasumba continued with his fine form in the league scoring three times to put Abdallah Juma's charges to sword and in the process reclaimed the second position in the Kenyan Premier League log. Chemelil were reduced to ten men in the 22nd minute when keeper John Waw was given his matching orders for handling the ball outside the area. Odera however feels the outcome would have been different had his side capitalized on gazillion of chances they created early on in the game.
-I think we shot ourselves, we created a lot of chances early in the game but we couldn't convert. We missed two good chances just before they took the lead and even after they scored we had more chances including a penalty which we did not convert. The red card changed everything because we had to sacrifice Mwaniki (Erastus) and against an experienced side like Sofapaka it was always going to be difficult to compete with a man less. All in all I think the boys did well, it was just a bad day on office and we have to dust ourselves and forge forward, Odera told Futaa.com.
Next for Chemelil is Gor Mahia on Thursday 14 September at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
