Mwana sublime finish halts Leopards resurgence

Yemi Mwana's sublime finish at stroke of half time proved sufficient for Sony Sugar to end  AFC Leopards' run of three games unbeaten by a 1-0 defeat this Wednesday 13 September.

The victory saw the visitors affirm a resurgence of their own with a second straight league win to leapfrog Leopards on the league standings.

Tame first half

The opening exchanges at Kericho stadium proved a tame one with less activities at the goal ends.

Leopards only threat came from a free kick that Victor Majid launched over the bar

The visitors claimed a slight edge of the proceedings and occasionally camped at Leopards territory although with nothing to show of it.

Yemi's composed finish

An unlikely breakthrough finally came late on after Yemi Mwana exploited a poor clearance from Salim Abdalla. The former Stima ace then kept a cool head to beat his marker and round keeper Gabriel Andika for the opener.

Kitenge chance

Trailing Ingwe resumed the half with quick changes sending in Whyvonnd Isuza and Alexis Kitenge sent on in place of Marcellus Ingotsi and Ray Omondi to aid the offensive push.

Kitenge came close to an impact introduction following a brilliant exchange with Ndung'u only to shoot straight at the grateful arms of Omondi Kevin.

Sony proves equal to threat

Robert Matano charges gave a good chase of the game but their occasional attempts at goal were answered by a resolute Sony side who introduced Alfred Onyango and Justin Monda to stabilise their midfield.

A late opportunity to salvage a point saw Leopards awarded a free kick at edge of goal but the chance went up in smoke as Majid shot smashed against the wall.

The win sees Sony move two ranks up the log to 11 as Ingwe remain precariously perched at 13 and in danger of dropping down the log.
