Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly said that contract talks with midfielder Mesut Ozil have ‘slowed down’ and not broken down.

The German had recently been linked with a move away from the Emirates after failing to agree on a new contract with the English side, being that the 28-year-old’s current deal is set to expire next summer.

Ozil and his representatives recently a £275,000-a-week deal and are rumoured to be demanding a £350,000-a-week package for the former Real Madrid star to commit his future to the Gunners. Bitter rivals Manchester United and Spanish giants Barcelona have subsequently been linked with the midfield maestro.

Wenger has however intervened to calm the situation by claiming that negotiations had to be put on hold so that the club can focus on competing. Le professeur further stated that he is ‘hopeful’ that the offensive minded player will soon reach an agreement with the club and continue his stay with them.
