SUPER SUB: Martial saves Mourinho’s face

Anthony Martial came off the bench to score the winning goal as Manchester United beat Tottenham 1-0 at Old Trafford.

A close and cagey affair looked likely to end in a goalless draw until Martial, who replaced Marcus Rashford in the 70th minute, got on the end of Romelu Lukaku's flick-on to net in the 81st-minute.

Lukaku had hit the foot of the post with a header minutes earlier, while Dele Alli had poked Spurs' best chance wide when Christian Eriksen found him in the area with a floated through-ball.

That result moves United two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and three ahead of Tottenham in third.

Man Utd XI: De Gea; Bailly, Jones, Smalling; Valencia, Herrera, Matic, Young; Mkhitaryan, Lukaku, Rashford.

Spurs XI: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Winks; Sissoko, Dele, Eriksen; Son.
