Atletico Madrid have reportedly contacted Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil with an offer to join them next summer.

News outlet The Sun has alleged that Atleti boss Diego Simeone is planning to capitalise on the stalemate between the German and the English side to secure the 29-year-old’s switch to the Wanda Metropolitano at the end of the season.

The report further claims that the La Liga juggernauts are ready to offer the playmaker a bumper £200,000-a-week deal and an attractive signing-on fee since the midfield dynamo would be joining them as a free agent once his current contract with the Gunners lapses.

Should this move materialise, then Arsenal would have been dealt a huge blow since they will have failed to get back any of the £42.5m they paid to acquire the linchpin from Real Madrid in 2013.
