Uganda to use Cecafa as a training tournament for CHAN

Interim Uganda Cranes manager, Moses Basena has said that the team is planning to use the upcoming CECAFA senior Challenge to prepare for the 2018 Africa Nations Championship to be held in Morocco next year.

Basena, who has been part of the national team set-up since 2015, is one in a long list of applicants who have applied to take over the Uganda Cranes permanent job.

He completed his duty over the weekend with a draw against Congo that ensured Uganda finish on second in group E of the 2018 Russia qualifiers (Africa zone).

Cecafa is slated for later this month in Nairobi Kenya.

- We want to use Cecafa as a training tournament for CHAN. As defending champions, we shall face good opposition that will help us achieve our targets for CHAN – which is to get out of the group stages. We want to go to Morocco as competitors. Majority of the players we currently have in the set up are young and feature locally, Basena said.
