Onyango impressed with Uganda Cranes away form
Uganda Cranes ended their unsuccessful but impressive 2018 World Cup campaign on a positive note with nine points, four behind Egypt and two ahead of Ghana’s Black Stars.
The team had one of the best performances in a qualifier conceding only twice in the eight matches played.
In those matches, Uganda picked a win, two draws and a loss to Egypt. The team captain, Denis Onyango, is particularly impressed with the recent away form which had, in the previous, been a bothersome record.
- We expected to win the game but all in all are happy with the point away from home. It has become a habit picking points on the road which is very good for the team going forward. In the previous year, we were losing all our away fixtures, Onyango said.
The skipper has also lauded the performance exhibited by the newcomers in the team. Among the newcomers, including Milton Karisa who was starting in his first game in the famous red and white shirt. The youngster went on to score the equaliser in the tenth minute.
- It’s good for the future of the team to have a lot of young boys. We have to support them because they are the future of the [Uganda] Cranes. Despite that moment when we lost concentration before conceding the goal, the boys gave a good account of themselves.
