Philippe Coutinho will finally join Barcelona after a six-month chase and becomes the second-most-expensive player after Liverpool confirmed they have reached an agreement with the Catalans over the transfer of the Brazilian.

The Brazilian will complete his much-anticipated move to Camp Nou in a £142 million deal that will see him become the second most expensive footballer in history. Barcelona say that the Brazilian will sign a five-and-a-half-year contract, with a buyout clause of 400m Euros (£354.6m). Coutinho becomes the second most expensive transfer of all time behind his compatriot Neymar, who left Barcelona to join PSG last summer.

Liverpool statement

Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately.

Barcelona statement

FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho.

With both clubs having announced the deal, Coutinho will be taking off on a private jet for Barcelona and a medical is expected to be carried out on Monday.

Surprisingly enough, Coutinho hasn't won a single trophy with his club since 2011, when he won the Coppa Italia title with Inter Milan. The player will sign a five-and-a-half-year contract. His weekly wage and bonuses remain undisclosed.
