Vihiga United failed to win their first match of the season as they settled for a 0-0 draw against visiting Nakumatt on Saturday 3rd March at Bukhungu Stadium.

The game started on a high note with both teams trying to outdo each other. Nakumatt were awarded a corner in the 11th minute but Adwar Tom shot landed perfectly to Martin Imbalala who didn’t waste time to clear it. However, two minutes later Andrew Murunga missed a screamer shot to take his side up but a shot by Andrew Murunga by a whisker.

In the 20th minute, Wafula squandered another opportunity to put the home side in front as he had only the goalkeeper to beat and open the score. He tried a scissor kick a minute later but it was not clinical enough to trouble Nakumatt custodian. Andrew Murunga scored three minutes to half hour mark but the assistant referee ruled against his goal as he was adjudged to be an offside one. Clinton Kisiasuki and Job Omuse combined well but their final finish failed them. However, Vihiga got their second chance but Patrick Okullo’s corner delivery was headed by Dennis Wafula and the ball went out slightly.

 HT: Vihiga United 0-0  Nakumatt

In the second half of the game, both teams came with the urgency at least to sharpen their attacks. Vihiga brought Airo and Ayugi who replaced Masinza nad Oricho respectively. Wanyonyi of Nakumatt was replaced by Cornelius Juma, while Nyakan replaces Omuse. The Western-based side started to pile pressure on Nakumatt defense line it's evidently seen when Airo sprinted towards goal but failed to beat Nakumatt keeper on one on one situation.

John Njoroge received his first booking of the season for handling in the 70th minute. Anthony Mwangi, side decided to pack the bus leaving one person in front as they try to soak pressure from Vihiga attackers, and were lucky when Mwenda punched out Airo’s goal-bound dangerous shot.

The intensity of the game was not that much threatening to either side, making the game look dull.
