Leopards' defence kingpin warns opponents
AFC Leopards defender Salim Abdalla has praised the morale in the team's dressing room after their 4-3 comeback win against Mathare United over the weekend.
AFC Leopards came back from behind twice to hand Mathare United their first loss of the season. Goals from Brian Marita, Duncan Otieno, Ezekiel Odera and Marvin Omondi ensured the Leopards went home with the three points. This win comes after Ingwe had lost 2-1 to Sofapaka and defeated SoNy Sugar 2-0.
Abdalla has revealed his readiness for national call-up duties and hopes that the chance comes his way soon, as he also aims to try his luck to play for a team outside Kenya.
“The morale is good at the camp and previously we have been performing well but scoring against a team like Mathare United has given us the morale and that all we want until the end. ‘We finish the league in a good place and then if I get to be called out for the National team it will also be good. I also aim to play outside Kenya,” Abdalla said.
The defender went ahead to talk about the pressure heap by the fans and the expectation from the team.
“Yes? we have been under pressure because?if you look at AFC Leopards it's a bigger team. They usually compare AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia as big teams in Kenya and when Kogalo performs? fans expect us to perform to," he added.
Abdalla has also issued a warning to teams that underrate them and urges his teammate not look down upon Wazito despite meeting them last season but to focus on winning matches.
"We have bounced back now and if someone underrated us they are in for a surprise. Wazito is a team we have met so we are looking forward to a win. We are not going to the game thinking of them as underdogs. All we are out for is a win, "he said.
AFC Leopards will host KPL newbies Wazito on March 14th at Kenyatta Stadium.
