Manchester United was knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage after an awful performance ended in a 2-1 home defeat by Sevilla.

The game started on a high note with both teams trying to outdo each other. United took the first chance of the game as early as 3 minute Lingard directed ball forward to Lukaku who had the chance to shoot from 20 yards on his right foot but the ball went over the bar.

Sevilla started crawling back gradually as they try to press the host in their half as early as the 14th minute, it's evidently seen when Bailly's feeble pass allowed Correa to feed Muriel, who tried to bend it into the top corner but leaned back and skied it.

Fellaini and Sanchez played one on one but it was so, unfortunately, the stopper was there to defend, this came few minutes after Lukaku had the chance to put the Red Devil’s in front but his shot went straight to Rico went wide.

In the second half of the game both teams came with the urge of winning the game. Manchester United brought in Pogba for Fellaini, while Ben Yedder replaced Muriel.

Ben Yedder scored in the 74th minute, two minutes after coming on with a low shot from 12 meters and then sent in a header off a corner that United goalkeeper David De Gea could only parry into his own net in the 78th. Romelu Lukaku lashed home from close range with seven minutes remaining, but it proved to be merely a consolation.

United exit the competition along with Tottenham, but Premier League leaders Manchester City and Liverpool progressed to Friday's quarter-final draw. Chelsea can join them if they beat Barcelona on Wednesday.
