AFC Leopards beats 10-man Wazito to move second

A brace each for Whyvonne Isuza and Pistone Mutamba ensured three points for AFC Leopards in the 3-2 victory over Wazito after the midweek KPL clash on Wednesday, March 14th at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos

Leopards not only started the match with a high tempo but also with well-interwoven passes that led to two chances that would have led to early opening goals. Brian Marita could not get to the long ball passed by Victor Majid and the second was a cross delivered by Brian Marita from the right flank but  Isuza's header went straight to Phillip Odhiambo's waiting hands.

Odhiambo saved Wazito from early blushes when he stopped Ezekiel Odera's penalty just in the 15th minute. Odera had been brought down by Emmanuel Tienan when they rushed into the box the later waiting to clear the ball and the former anticipating to score from Jaffery Owiti's incoming cross.

Leopards Go Down

Pistone Mutamba put it past Jairus Odira by rising higher than Salim Abdalla and heading into an empty net. Adira had left his line trying to clear the aerial ball but the Wazito forward was there before his arrival. The deadly free-kick was delivered by Joachim Omollo. The Wazito custodian almost gifted Odera a chance to equalize and atone his earlier mishap when he got out of his area trying to clear a corner kick. They both failed, the keeper did not clear, Odera headed over the bar.

Odera scored what might be another season goal when his scissor kick in the 44th minute went into the left bottom corner with Odhiambo well beaten in goal. The time came and Odera paid what could have been a long time grudge Leopards fans hold against him after the missed spot kick. Kennedy Ayako had to leave the pitch after dangerously tackling Moses Mburu in the 54th minute. The Leopards doubled the score when Isuza headed in from the free kick delivered by Mburu. Odera was the assist maker after his initial header failed to go past Odhiambo.

Mutamba got their second when he drove the ball slowly into Leopards empty net. The counterattack was driven swiftly by Joe Waithera who beat Adira and released the ball in the 55th minute for Mutamba to score his second league goal.

Another penalty, another miss for Leopards. This time it was Victor Majid whose penalty was saved by Odhiambo again. Mark Odhiambo needlessly had brought down Marvin Nabwire. However, Leopards went ahead again when Isuza scored in the 83rd minute when he guided a Jaffery Owiti cross past a forest of Wazito defenders.
