Emery advised to use Arsenal academy star for Borisov clash

Arsenal U23 head coach Freddie Ljungberg has told Unai Emery to use Eddie Nketiah in the crucial Europa League return leg against BATE Borisov on Thursday.

It is a must-win clash for the Gunners if they're to advance to the last 16 as they suffered a 1-0 shock defeat in Belarus last week. With Alexander Lacazette suspended for the clash after he was sent off, Ljungberg has backed Nketiah to impress should the teenager be given a chance.

"If he gets the call, he’s ready to play without question," Ljungberg told the Islington Gazette.

"It’s totally up to the manager, I’ve always thought we have players who are ready to do well but it’s up to the first team. ‘All I can do is advise and try to get the players as ready as possible. It’s important for Eddie to play games."

"As a striker, you can’t just train because you want to feel that feeling to get yourself in the right place at the right time to score. That’s why I think it was important for Eddie to play so he’s ready when he gets a chance in the first-team. He needs games, as a striker, he always needs to be playing."

The 19-year-old has already made two appearances in the Europa League this season and was on the bench for the defeat to BATE last Thursday.
