Allan Wanga scored his ninth goal of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season after helping Kakamega Homeboyz to a 2-1 win over visiting Mathare United at the Bukhungu Stadium-Kakamega on Sunday 17 March.

Prior to the game, there was news that Mathare players had threatened not to honour the match due to an accumulation of monies owed to them by the club management but the dent seems not to have troubled the visitors when they went into the lead two minutes into the game through James Kinyanjui who combined well with Cliff Nyakeya.

Despite the goal, the home side was going to have none of it and Wanga deservedly equalized in the 21st minute after sumptuously lobbing the ball past the onrushing Allan Owiny who was manning the goal for the visitors.

With the scorching heat, referee Anthony Ongwayo was to stop the game for a water break in the 22nd minute with Homeboyz doubling their lead in the 32nd minute through Maxwell Ravel; the former Ushuru FC striker beating a badly trapped offside by the visitors' defence to slot past Owiny.

The loss leaves Mathare at position four on the log with Homeboyz ten points below them in ninth position.
