Boost for Mathare United as defender returns from injury
Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United has received a timely boost with defender Samuel Olwande he returned to first-team training on Monday.
The right-back has been out for five months after undergoing surgery on his right knee to correct a third-degree meniscus tear in October last year.
Speaking to the club’s website, Olwande said: “It feels good to be back. I have really missed playing football so it’s wonderful to kick the ball again. I have really learnt a lot during this period. It’s important to be patient and to have a positive mentality.
“You have to work hard during the therapy sessions even when you feel like giving up because you want to recover in good time.”
Despite the return, the former Chemelil Sugar FC defender is not rushing things and will only make himself available when he is fully fit.
“I don’t want to rush then suffer another setback since I have seen it happening to other players with similar injuries. I am targeting the last five games,” Olwande added.
Mathare United is currently placed sixth on the log with 35 points and is up against Nzoia Sugar FC in their next league clash.
