Antonio Rudiger's return to the Chelsea line up did not go as planned as he was withdrawn with a knee injury in the second half with Maurizio Sarri providing an injury update on the German defender after the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
According to reports, Rudiger was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches and will undergo further tests at the club’s training ground to determine the nature of the problem. Rudiger had suffered a knee injury in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool and returned for the first time in the game against United.
Speaking in a press conference after the stalemate with United, Sarri provided an injury update on Rudiger, "I think the most serious situation is Rudiger, with his knee. Willian at the moment is in trouble but I think it is only a knock so we can try to recover him. For the next match in the Europa League, probably Antonio will be out."
Rudiger is certain to miss the first leg of the club’s Europa League semi-final at Eintracht Frankfurt and remains a major doubt for the remaining games of the season.
