Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum says he would be disappointed not to start in the Champions League final against Tottenham on Saturday 1st.

The former Newcastle ace started from the bench against Barcelona in the return leg at Anfield and now is looking for to being handed a starting role on Saturday. Wijnaldum netted two goals for the Reds after coming from the bench and helped his side to overcome a 3-0 defeat to advance to the finals of the competition. Despite his performance, the Dutch international admits it is not a guarantee that he will start against the north London side.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “ "There is no guarantee that you will play but we will see. I was angry (to not start against Barcelona) but I think that is normal. It's a bad sign if you are happy to sit on the bench. (The expectation being) if you come back from an injury and you are coming back step-by-step.”

"I just want to play as much as possible, especially in a game like (the final). I think everyone would be disappointed if they don't play.”

The match will kick off at 10:00 PM EAT.
