Harambee Stars young defender Joseph Okumu has dismissed claims of pressure in Harambee Stars loss to Algeria on Sunday 22 June in their opening game of the 2019 AFCON.
The USA based star was a surprise inclusion in the starting team and he showcased why he was one of the best in the business with some spirited display and as fans still talk about his display, the Kakamega High School alumni told Futaa that his main aim was to help Stars get the required points.
“I don’t think I had the pressure that comes with playing at this stage. The pressure for me was to give the country three points and showcase what we could do. There was nothing else,” Okumu said.
The former Chemelil Sugar FC player, however, admitted that the results were unfortunate but exuded confidence that all was not lost in their remaining games.
“It was very unfortunate with the results but it's not yet done we still have six points to fight for. It was interesting playing against players at the top level and had to just take the pleasure and give my best,” Okumu added.
The player will hope he can get more playing time when Stars take on Tanzania in the next game.
