Hosts Egypt have qualified for the round of 16 of Africa Cup of Nations following a 2-0 win over DR Congo in a match played on Wednesday 26th.
Captain Ahmed El-Mohamady opened the scoring for Egypt in the 25th minute before Mohamed Salah scored the second and the winning for the hosts to send them through to knock out stages.
The Pharaoh’s attempt to break Congo’s defence saw them given a corner in the 25th minute. A short corner was taken and Salah delivered inside the box with the attempts to clear the ball giving captain Ahmed El-Mohamady chance to score from a close range.

Egypt were saved by the crossbar as Congo were denied an equalizer in the 40th minute of play. A nice build-up saw the ball delivered inside the penalty area where Merveille Bokadi rose to divert the ball to Jonathan Bolingi, whose header saw Mohamed El-Shenawy beaten but the ball struck the post.
A counter-attack developed after high press from DR Congo which saw Mahmoud Trezeguet look for Mohamed Salah with a searching pass on the right wing. The Liverpool man stormed inside Congo’s penalty area, he twisted and turned before smashing the ball into the near post to give Egypt a commanding lead.
The win means Egypt becomes the second team to qualify for the knock out stages after Nigeria advanced to the round of 16 with a 1-0 win over Guinea. With one match to go, the Pharaoh's are currently on top of Group A with 6 points while Uganda are second with 4 points.
