CAF CC: Zanaco aim high

Zanaco Assistant coach Dabid Chilufya believes his team has what it takes to go beyond the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Chilufya feels the bankers have a quality side that can go far in the tournament and maybe reach the semifinals or the final of the 2019/2020 CAF Confederation Cup.

" We reached the group stage so we have to do better and maybe reach the quarter-finals and semifinals or the final. With what I have seen today we are going to do better," he told Futaa Zambia.

"It was a good training game. They have helped us see where we need to work on. Am happy with the performance of the boys. They have shown that we are CAF material."

Chilufya was impressed with the way the defense played in the match and believes it is solid. Zanaco had a porous defense in the transitional league which saw then concede the second-highest goals in stream A, 28.

"We started with Lombard (Tiberius) and Belchance (Makiesa)and they were solid but Belchance got injured and we have to bring in Ziyo. We want to try them all and see which combination we can use in the league and Continental. Looking at them now we are solid in defense," he said.

The bankers held 2016 CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns to a goalless draw despite playing the last few minutes of the match with ten men following the sending off of Lombard.

Zanaco is on bye in the first preliminary stage and their first CAF match will be on the weekend of 11/12 September 2019 away to either Bolton CYC of Mauritius or Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana.
