☄️🦁 Futaa’s all-star Premier League XI: Who makes the cut?

The Premier League season is just two days away and we've put together our all-star XI comprising some of the best household names in the English top-flight.

The side is peppered with Liverpool defenders and Manchester City attackers, but who have we left out? Make sure to check the honourable mentions at the bottom of the page.

Starting XI (4-2-3-1) 🧮

David De Gea; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Aymeric Laporte, Andrew Robertson; Kevin De Bruyne, N'Golo Kanté; Mohamed Salah, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling; Sergio Agüero

Defence 🤺

David De Gea's inclusion ahead of Alisson might be controversial, but his shot-stopping ability and distribution, as well as his consistency in the Premier League, means that he gets the nod.

Liverpool dominates the back four with outstanding fullbacks Alexander-Arnold and Robertson bombing forward, providing 12 and 11 assists respectively for teammates last season. Reigning PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk is a rock at the back, while Man City's cultured left-footed Frenchman Aymeric Laporte already has 22 clean sheets in 44 appearances in the Premier League, weighing in with three goals and three assists. Not bad for a ball-playing centre back.

Midfield 🥽

It remains to be seen how Frank Lampard utilises World Cup winner N'Golo Kante after the diminutive Frenchman was deployed as a box-to-box midfielder under Maurizio Sarri. At his best, Kanté is one of the finest defensive midfielders in the world. Alongside him, Kevin De Bruyne's intelligence and versatility is such a bonus for Manchester City. The Belgian makes the Champions tick in so many ways, even in a withdrawn midfield role as opposed to the central attacking midfield “number 10” position.

Fearsome front four 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥

2018/2019 was the season that Raheem Sterling became a genuinely world-class operator. Double figures in both goals and assists in the Premier League is no mean feat, and the devastatingly pacy Englishman will be looking to build on that. His City teammate Bernardo Silva is too good to leave out after a string of brilliant performances at the tail-end of last season and a man of the match display in the Community Shield just days ago. Egyptian star Mohamed Salah came to life in the second half of last season and he capped a brilliant season with a Champions League winner's medal and a share of the EPL Golden Boot.

Who else to lead the line but Manchester City goal-machine Kun Agüero? Numbers seldom lie in football and Agüero's consistency in front of goal is mind-boggling; the Argentine has scored 20+ Premier League goals in five consecutive Premier League seasons.

Substitutes 🤔

Alisson; César Azpilicueta, Toby Alderweireld, Paul Pogba, Sadio Mané, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Harry Kane

Honourable mentions 💫

Ederson, Jordan Henderson, Hector Bellerin, Joel Matip, Jan Vertonghen, Callum Wilson, Jamie Vardy, Christian Eriksen, Ryan Fraser, Leroy Sané, Diogo Jota, Raúl Jiménez, Youri Tielemans, Ruben Neves

The new Premier League season is just two days away. Who makes it into your Premier League all-star XI? We'll be building a LaLiga version soon!
