Iwobi opens up on why he left Arsenal for Everton

Everton new signing Alex Iwobi has revealed he ditched Arsenal for the Liverpool club in order to 'make a name for himself'.

The Nigerian signed for the Toffees in a five-year deal worth £40 million on transfer deadline day, bringing an end to his long Arsenal career that started in the club's academy.

The 23-year-old, who had substantial playing time last season under Unai Emery has now opened up on why le left, despite a perceived bright future.

“I spoke to the manager and Marcel [Brands] and they almost lured me in,” Iwobi told Everton TV.

“The offer was too attractive for me to turn down. The manager was telling me, ‘There is a spot for you, we will take care of you,". Basically, all the things you want to hear as a player,"

“I always had that youngster tag at Arsenal, so hopefully with this move, I am able to make a name for myself in the Premier League and create history with Everton.”

The winger was one of the seven players brought in by Marco Silva during the summer transfer, joining Jean Philippe Gbamin, Moise Kean, Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and Djibril Sidibe.

Iwobi was not involved in the club's opening match for the season against Crystal Palace but might be inline for some action against Watford on Saturday.
