Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit believes Chelsea will not miss David Luiz after the Brazilian moved to the Emirates Stadium this past week.
Luiz joined the north London club on deadline day for £8 million ($9.7m) after he was reportedly told he will not feature for Frank Lampard's side regularly.
The Brazilian then went on an alleged strike and trained alone on the eve of the transfer deadline, eventually making the move with a few hours remaining to the closure of the transfer window.
"The fact that David Luiz left the club the way he did tells me that Lampard told him he was not going to feature regularly in his team," Petit told Paddy Power.
"Luiz is 32 years old, and Lampard knows what he’s like as a player and was fine with showing him the door – I don’t think that’s the issue here."
Chelsea got their 2019/20 season off to a poor start, losing 4-0 to Manchester United at the Old Trafford, with many questioning the club's decision to let the experienced defender leave.
Petit, who spent three seasons at Chelsea as well, believes Luiz should have been sold earlier.
"But for me, Lampard sent a clear message to Luiz by showing him the door, that he is not his priority, so I doubt he regrets his decision."
Chelsea lost their second match 5-4 on penalties to Liverpool on Wednesday night in the Uefa Super Cup competition but put in a brilliant performance.
They will next host Leicester on Sunday in the EPL hoping to pick their first win.
