Who is the Liverpool keeper who is set to start against Southampton?

With Allison and Adrian likely out because of injuries, Liverpool is expected to turn to their third-choice keeper Andy Lonergan when Southampton calls on Saturday in their second Premier League game of the season.

Alisson is expected to be out for between six to eight weeks after being forced off with a calf injury in Liverpool's opening Premier League encounter against Norwich at Anfield.

Adrian, on the other hand, picked up a bizarre injury in their Wednesday Super Cup win over Chelsea and with Mignolet having been sold to Club Brugge and Loris Karius on loan at Besiktas, Lonergan is set to be called upon.

After being at Rochdale just last season, the veteran goalkeeper, who turns 36 in October, was released by the Championship side last season and became a free agent in the summer.

But he has gained plenty of experience over the years, having started his career all the way back in 2000 with Preston North End. During his 19 years as a professional, he has played for a total of 12 other clubs.

Loans

After loan spells at Darlington, Blackpool, Wycombe and Swindon between 2002 and 2006, he went on to become a permanent fixture at Deepdale until 2011.

After his time at Deepdale came to an end, he then moved to Leeds for a season for a fee of around £325,000 before being bought by Bolton Wanderers, where he made 62 appearances and kept 15 clean sheets.

Following a three-year spell at Bolton, it was Fulham up next for Lonergan, who previously played for England's Under 21s, before being moved on to Wolves.

A return to Leeds came next in 2017, where he would end up as third-choice goalkeeper before sealing a move to Middlesbrough at the start of last season.

While he might not have the pedigree needed to help guide Liverpool to a first Premier League title, he is likely to get his chance to prove to Klopp that he can count on him.

Having been released by Boro, the Reds signed Lonergan - who was born in Preston - as a short-term solution on a free transfer due to Liverpool's goalkeeping injury crisis.
