Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango joined the illustrious list of players to bag the SJAK Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award as he admitted that he is a happy defender to win the individual accolade.
Aside from winning the MVP, Joash was also named the Kenyan Premier League Defender of the Year, fending off strong opposition from Brain Otieno and Kevin Wesonga from Bandari and Sony Sugar respectively. The Gor Mahia deputy captain walked home with Ksh. 1.25 Million after winning both awards with the MVP accounting for one million.
Speaking to futaa after receiving the award, Joash expressed his happiness at winning the gong especially as a defender, "I'm so happy because there was a time I was on this stage but I did not win, most times these sort of awards goes to strikers and midfielders but I'm a happy defender to win it."
Joash will be hoping to see his side proceed to the First Round of the Champions League at the expense of Aigle Noir on Sunday 25th August in a 4 PM kick-off.
